You can download a VPN client for any of the following supported operating systems.

U of MN Profile

To download, right-click "U of MN Profile," choose "Save Link as...," and save to your desktop. Open the VPN client software and click the "Import" button in the toolbar to import into client.

Other profiles have been tried and are available to meet your specific VPN workgroup/context configuration. Please see your department’s Service Gateway MID contacts to see if a VPN workgroup has been created for your department’s enterprise needs.


Unsupported Operating Systems


For the following operating systems, there is no Cisco VPN client compatible with the University's VPN service:
  • Windows 95, Windows 98
  • Mac OS X 10.1 and older
  • Mac OS 9 and older
  • PDA and handheld PC platforms

Important Upgrade Notices

  • Windows and Macintosh: delete the old profile from within the existing VPN client, and then run the new client's installer to overwrite the old client. 
  • AHC/Fairview Windows and Macintosh: Contact your VPN support staff if you use "ahcvpn" and "umpvpn" VPN workgroup profiles.

Cost

This service is provided free of charge to eligible students, faculty, and staff. The Cisco VPN client software is also available free of charge.

Currently there are no limits on your use of this VPN service. However, when you no longer need the access or security VPN provides, we encourage you to disconnect from the VPN server.

The Shrew Soft VPN Client for Windows is a free IPsec Remote Access VPN Client for Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems ( x86 and amd64 versions ).

The Shrew Soft VPN Client for Unix is a free IPsec Client for FreeBSD, NetBSD and Linux based operating systems.
