Background
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus with standard VPN service, along with several private VPN implementations for colleges and departments that have different access needs. The current VPN equipment and software is reaching its end-of-life cycle in mid 2010 and is being replaced.
Project Objective
The primary objective of the VPN Replacement Project is to replace the current service with a more robust state-of-the-art solution. Replacement continues to enable University students, faculty, and staff to establish secure connections to the University network and its resources.
Scope of Project
In Scope
- The replacement of the OIT centrally-managed VPN service
- The replacement of collegiate and departmental VPN implementations supported by OIT
Out of Scope
- The replacement of all non-OIT supported VPN service on campus
