Video conferencing is globally recognized as a practical means to save travel expenses and improve the efficiency of business and education processes by enabling face-to-face interactions. The world population currently stays in touch with personal video devices such as cell phones or laptops using Skype. At the University we need enterprise-level equipment to enable distance communication for courses, meetings, collaborative research, and special events on a state-wide, national, and international level.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has created an enterprise-level standard on how these systems should be established, operated, and maintained to best serve the University community as a whole. We are currently collaborating with educational entities on- and off-campus, such as the Learning Network of Minnesota (LNM), to establish a system which may be utilized by all participants and maximize the value of the University investment in video conferencing technology.
