Campus Implementation

We strive to provide the University community with the most common and economical software options that align with the University's mission. If there is a demand for specific software, it may be more economical to purchase a University system-wide license and “share” the licensing costs across administrative areas.

Please send an e-mail to the OIT Software License Team at software@umn.edu if you feel there may be a need for a University system-wide license option. Include the software title, vendor, and if you have a vendor contact.

The OIT Software License Team:

investigates and researches possible software license options based upon University need;
contacts software vendors to obtain volume software license contract options, details, pricing tiers, etc.;
queries the University community to determine if there is a need for the specific software and if it is economical for the University to purchase a volume license;
consults with OIT Finance to determine a cost recovery model; and
administers the contract by tracking customer details and software costs, testing software images, creating a distribution method for customers to obtain the software (preferably via software image download), reminding customers regarding renewal processes, and notifying them of product upgrades.

This process may take up to one month to complete.

If there is not a University-wide demand, collegiate/administrative units would purchase the software specific to their area independently.
