
Before or as you first arrive at the University as an incoming student, follow these steps to get started using campus computing and online resources.
Please note that to complete some items, you first must register for courses.
Initiate your Internet ID.
Your Internet ID is your unique account name and provides access to all University network resources including myU portal, email, and more. To use it, your first need to activate it. See the Student Internet Account Initiation page.
Manage your Internet account options.
Once you have initiated your Internet ID, you can manage changes to your account on your My Account page, such as:

Discover hardware and software offers.
IT works with vendors to provide discounts on a variety of hardware and software products. See the UMart and UTools sites for all options. For example, you can download antivirus software at no charge from the UTools website.
Access your University email account.
Your University email account is the official means of communication at the U of M. Your University email address is: [your Internet ID]@umn.edu.

Check your email with U of M Web Based E-mail.
Learn about technology services.
Technology Help is your first point of contact for hardware, software, and Internet support.
Computer labs are conveniently located across campus.
