General Configuration

If you choose to use an e-mail client that is not supported by OIT, you can use the general configuration settings below to set up your e-mail client.

Gophermail

Incoming Mail

Server type: IMAP
Server/Host: YourInternetID.email.umn.edu (use your Internet login ID)
Port number and security (encryption): 143 TLS (STARTTLS), alternative 993 SSL
Username and password: Use your University Internet ID and password
Authentication method: Password, do not use Secure Password Athentication (SPA)
Mail check interval: 15 minutes or longer

Outgoing Mail

Server/Host: smtp.umn.edu
Port number and security: 25 TSL (STARTTLS); alternatives 587 TLS, 465 SSL
Username and password: Use your University Internet ID and password
Authentication method: Password, do not use Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Address Lookup

This feature works only when connected to the University network.

Server/Host: ldap.umn.edu
Base DN: O=University of Minnesota, C=US
Port number: 389

Gmail

Incoming Mail

Server type: IMAP
Server/Host: imap.gmail.com
Port number: 993
Username and password: Use your University Internet ID and password
Authentication method: Password, do not use Secure Password Athentication (SPA)
Mail check interval: 15 minutes or longer

Outgoing Mail

Server/Host: smtp.gmail.com
Port number and security: 25 TSL (STARTTLS); alternatives 587 TLS, 465 SSL
Username and password: Use your University Internet ID and password
Authentication method: Password, do not use Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Address Lookup

This feature works only when connected to the University network.

Server/Host: ldap.umn.edu
Base DN: O=University of Minnesota, C=US
Port number: 389 (636 if SSL is selected)
